Local Harvest makes eating local easy
Yum…the holidays are near which means one thing: FOOD! And if you haven’t heard by now, eating locally, or being a localvore as some people call it, is really good for you and the planet. Why? Because it lowers the distance that the food has travel (good for the environment and lower cost for you), the food can ripen longer and doesn’t require as much refrigeration (good for the environment, lower cost to you AND food tastes better), and if you are supporting a CSA or farmer’s market you are supporting local small businesses. Also, since local food is by its very nature “in season,” it can more easily be grown without any pesticides or fertilizers (I recommend buying organic, or at least pesticide-free, whenever possible!) A super fun, family-friendly thing that many small farms do is their “pick your own” option where they give you a cart and you go out into the fields and pick your own fruits and veggies. The farm near LA that we usually do this at is Underwood Family Farms. To find out all about your local food options, including pick your own, check out Local Harvest.
