Read!!!

In the spirit of REDUCE REUSE RECYCLE, I always try to buy used items first. And between EBAY and Amazon Marketplace this is incredibly easy.

Ninety-nine percent of the personal development books I purchase, from professional to health-related to spiritual in nature, are second hand, and you know what they all have in common? The previous owner never read them.

One of my favorite books of all time had a single note in the first 10-pages and then nothing. The book I’m reading right now has a handful of marks that come to an end a few pages into chapter 2.
Do yourself a favor and pick up one of those books collecting dust in your house. I’m happy to get the great price of buying it secondhand, but you, and the world, would be richer for reading it.

Flamethrower: The Iron Cowboy James Lawrence

I just recently gave an award-winning speech, I can’t post it yet as the competition is on-going…but I will as soon as I can, and included James Lawrence in it. If you a wondering who James Lawrence is, I’ll just tell you what he accomplished because it explains a lot: in 2015 he completed 50-triatholons, in 50-days, in 50-states.  He averaged 4.5-hours of sleep every night and swam a number of the competitions with only one-arm because of a torn shoulder muscle sustained on day #5. Here is a great article about him here: http://www.redbull.com/us/en/adventure/stories/1331739321621/iron-cowboy-50-marathons-50-states-50-days

The reason I find James’ story so inspiring is because, as far as I can tell, there was no EXTERNAL reason for him to complete this goal: no one was going to give him a gold medal for doing it. He did it because he wanted to and he was willing to put in the work day-after-day to accomplish it. As Dan Brown said:

“Everything is possible. The impossible just takes longer.”

Thanks for spreading your light James!

Spring Colors

It’s February 17 as I write this post, and the Ornamental Pear Trees are finishing off their showy white blossoms that appear like a burst of marshmallow clouds every Spring.  Or as my child likes to refer to them, “the white sprinkles tree.” She loves to grab a stick, shake the tree’s branches and giggle giddily as the white blossoms rain down on her.

What’s next? The Crepe Myrtles and the Cherry Blossoms. Get ready for explosions of fuschia in your neighborhood! Enjoy the short-lived show while it lasts…the little things are the big things! If you live in the Los Angeles area, Lake Balboa always has an amazing display of cherry blossoms in the Spring. Perfect for an afternoon picnic.
