Decoupage Heart Project

Decoupage is a fun and easy way to create decorations from scratch or to add creative flair to an existing object. We made this “stained glass” heart for Valentine’s Day with just a few items.  You can also see a video version of this project on our YouTube Channel here. Craft supplies available for sale here.

Supplies for “Stained Glass” Heart
-Wax Paper
-Colored Tissue Paper (at least 3-complementary colors)
-Mod Podge Gloss (white glue will work)
-Brush for glue

1. Tear up the tissue paper into small pieces. Use at least 3-complementary colors to get a nice layering effect.

2. Cut a heart shape out of wax paper. Dip the brush in glue and brush a light coat onto the wax paper.

3. Adhere a piece of tissue paper to the already gluey wax paper. Seal the tissue paper with a thin layer of glue over the top. Layer of glue should be light enough that issue paper should NOT look “white”. Overlap the edges of the paper to create the stained glass effect and make sure to not leave any surface uncovered. Once you are finished, allow the glue to dry fully.

4. Create a Border: Take the posterboard and cut out a slightly larger heart shape border that is about 1-inch thick. When the decoupage is dry, tape it to the border

Here’s another project I mention in the YouTube video. A gift box my best friend and I send back and forth to each other. We paste a new image with each gift sent.
